April 19th - Fix a problem

The April 19th PLUG meeting will be a fix a problem meeting.

Members were invited to submit a free software problem for the usergroup to address.

We'll be attempting to solve a problem posed by PLUG co-founder Syd Weidman

OK, here is one problem. This is a configuration problem, but probably has several good solutions. I am seeking the simplest one

The problem is that my laptop, which I carry with me between my two jobs. I use evolution for email, and I would like to use evolution at both jobs without having to manually change the outgoing mail mechanism for each of my three email accounts. I used to use sendmail for outgoing mail at both workplaces, but unless you have a properly configured fully qualified domain name (which my laptop, behind various layers of firewalls and NAT) does not, many (most) smtp servers will simply refuse to relay or accept your message. So every time I come in to work I have to set my SMTP server for each of the three accounts to the SMTP server for that workplace. Now this isn't burdensome, but it is a pain. Does anyone have a suggestions for how to automate this or arrange my configuration so that I can make one change at each workplace rather than 3?

Location is the University of Winnipeg's main campus on Portage avenue (between Spence and Balmoral), room 2M70 (a board room), second floor of the Manitoba building.

Time, 7:30pm.

The easiest way to get there is to enter the main (south) doors of Centennial Hall (the big building at the center of the campus). Go up the escalators one level, procedure forward on that floor of Centennial Hall, look for the signs on the right directing your towards Manitoba Hall, make a right turn and pass through a hallway into Manitoba Hall. A left turn is the direction to take at Manitoba Hall's hallway, and room 2M70 is a few doors down, on the right side.
