With the upcoming protests against new EU Patent Reforms I decided to visit the US patent office website and do a search for the word "click" and came up with 16841 results. I was interested to see this patent, # 6,609,105 described as a "System and method for providing access to electronic works" dated August 19, 2003 by Sander (Alexander) van Zoest of mp3.com fame.

I then did a google search on him and was quite surprised to find he is an open source supporter, perl, apache and freebsd programmer.

If you've ever been at a friend's house and wanted to show off a few of the things Linux can do, CD-based Linux distros are a great way to do it. I've tried Knoppix and ADIOS. There is even a special page at DistroWatch for CD distros. I just tried out a nice, lightweight package called Slackware Live-CD and it was very impressive.

The Canadian Linux Interest Coalition, that is. Backed by the folks from CLUE and some other Canadian LUGS, CLIC is dedicated to fighting the protection racket down at SCO. I couldn't be happier personally. There's even some media coverage...
