Slackware Live-CD

If you've ever been at a friend's house and wanted to show off a few of the things Linux can do, CD-based Linux distros are a great way to do it. I've tried Knoppix and ADIOS. There is even a special page at DistroWatch for CD distros. I just tried out a nice, lightweight package called Slackware Live-CD and it was very impressive.

Redhat Winmodem installation

Im sorry if this is a place to put useful info on this sort of topic, but im kindof a n00b in linux, and i have recently install redhat (mule with a spinning wheel). I'm quite used to windows *gasp* and my system was designed to be a windows system, therefore, i have a winmodem (lucent v.90) I've tried downloading drivers, and such, but with no luck. Seeing as how i am quite new to redhat (mule with a spinning weel), i could use some advice on how to get on the internet. thanx

Using tar for backups

To back up a file system means to create archives that contain all the files in that file system. Those archives can then be used to restore any or all of those files (for instance if a disk crashes or a file is accidently deleted).
